Aadi pooja

The start of Aadi month is the Dakshinayana punyakaalam. Aadi is month of fervour and observances in Goddess related to Water - force and Natural-forces. Where poojas are offered to propitiate the powerful Goddess and seek their protection from the inauspicious aspects that are often associated with the month. The month of Aadi is considered very auspicious to connect oneself to this Divine power. No weddings or other similar functions are celebrated during Aadi is considered inauspicious.

The first day of the month (july-17) is celebrated as Aadi pandigai, which is an important festival to most Tamils , especially New-Weds

  • Aadi Sundays, Aadi Tuesdays, Aadi Fridays.
  • AAadi Amavasi (august-11), This day in Aadi month dedicated to offering Shradh and Tarpan to dead ancestors.
  • Varalakshmi pooja - The pourami day of Aadi month is chosen to perform Varalakshmi pooja. Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi on Varalakshmi day is equivalent to worshipping Ashtalakshmi - the eight Goddess of Wealth, Earth, Learning, Love, Fame, Peace, Pleasure and Strength.
  • Aadi Karthigai is dedicated to Lord Muruga

Lakshmi Naarayan pooja is very effective to fulfill the wishes and desires of a person or his family.

Thus the festival epitomises the victory of Good over Evil, but it also is in part a harvest festival that marks the Goddess as the motherly power behind all of life and creation.
